Where students actually struggle
Math 10C is the first course where students meet abstraction — factoring and function notation — after years of arithmetic-style work. Students who coasted through Grade 9 often hit their first real wall here, and because 10C is the gateway to both the -1 and -2 streams, a weak grade quietly closes doors two years early.
How we teach it
We rebuild the algebra fluency the course assumes but does not teach, then work through factoring and functions until the notation stops being the obstacle. Most 10C students need repetition on fundamentals more than they need new content.
