Alberta diploma exams count for 30% of the final grade. They are written in January, April, June, August and November, and they test the whole course under time pressure in a format most students have never practised. Knowing the content and scoring the marks are two different skills.

How we prepare students
Released diploma questions run through the whole year rather than appearing in the last three weeks. Exam pacing is practised as its own skill, and numerical-response accuracy is drilled separately from content, because that is where careful students still lose marks. Written-response courses get format practice as well as content review.
When diplomas are written
Alberta diploma exams are administered in January, April, June, August and November. Students rewriting to improve a mark are welcome — the highest of the two attempts is used.
